10 Things To Do When You're Sad

I've mentioned in several blog posts before that a big thing I'm working on in my life is being a happier person and really focusing on self-care and being kind to myself. I thought I'd write about some of the things I like to do when I'm sad that always help me feel better, and hopefully this can help some of you out for when you're next feeling down.

1) Watch a funny movie
This is my go-to thing to do when I'm feeling sad or anxious. Watching a movie to take your mind of things and make you laugh out loud always helps. (Side note; a few episodes of Friends also does the trick!)

2) Comfort food
When I'm feeling really down, along with my funny movie, I like to have some yummy comforting food. Soup and hot chocolate are usually my top choices. Something warm and familiar usually does the trick.

3) Talk to a friend
Sometimes talking it out with a friend is the best therapy. Call up a good friend and have a chat, vent, complain, reminisce and have some laughs. You'll feel so much better after.

4) Go out
Sometimes, staying home alone will just make you feel more upset. Call up a friend or two, go out for brunch, a shopping trip, a weekend road trip, anything to get you out of the house. You'll end up having lots of fun and it'll put you instantly in a better mood!

5) Listen to old music
I'm a very nostalgic person. Another thing I like to do when I feel sad is to listen to songs I used to love when I was younger. Just look up "Best Songs of [insert year here]" and listen away. It's fun getting to hear songs you may not have heard in years and seeing how much you remember them.

6) Bake
This might not be for everyone, but when I feel sad I like to bake or cook something. I have fun doing it, the house smells lovely after and then you get something delicious to eat after. Plus you can listen to music to make it extra fun. (Pro Tip: combine multiple of these tips. Invite some friends over, listen to a 90's playlist and bake together!)

7) Read a good book
Reading a good book can take you out of your difficult situation or sad mood and into a completely new one. It can distract you from the sadness and leave you feeling so much better afterwards!

8) Pet therapy
If you like animals, and have access to some, this is always a great idea. Nothing like petting and playing with a dog or cat when you're feeling sad. Foolproof way to feel so much better (unless you have allergies. Then maybe you could watch cute animal videos on YouTube)

9) Write
Writing in a journal is something that has gotten me out of some of my hardest times. Just sit down and write until you can't write anymore. Get all your feelings out. You'll likely feel very relieved and at least a bit better when you're done.

10) Take a warm bath or shower
I always feel extra relaxed and refreshed after a warm bath or shower. Best way to de-stress and cheer up!

What things do you do when you're feeling sad and want to feel better?

The BEST and EASIEST Waffle Recipe! (Blogmas Day 9)

When it starts to get chilly out, I find myself making waffles pretty often. In fact, our Sunday breakfast usually consists of waffles of some kind. And in my house, I'm the designated waffle chef. I have the best recipe for waffles that are truly delicious AND any lazy chefs dream; its all done in one bowl, with ingredients everyone has in their kitchen. Literally foolproof and delicious. 1 Year of Covid-19: A reflection

It feels like just yesterday we were all feeling the anxiety and uncertainty of a new disease that was spreading quickly around the world that no one truly understood yet. We were facing the first wave of cases, the fear of going outside and being around people and the first round of quarantines and restrictions.  It feels like just yesterday, but also so long ago.  I, and I am sure many others, am feeling a mix of emotions.  Sad for the loss of comfort we once had. Grief for all the lives lost and permanently changed. Thankful for my health and that of my family. Gratitude for the scientists and frontline workers alike, working tirelessly behind the scenes I hope that one day we can return to a new normal. I hope that one day I'll be able to go to work and not feel  afraid  to get too close to my coworkers and patients. I hope that no one will ever again have to face the end of their lives all alone. I hope that no one has their life cut short because of an insidious virus that

Blogilates Beginner's Calendar 2.0: Review & Final Update

I've officially completed all 28 days of the Blogilates Beginner's Calendar and firstly, I have to say that I'm pretty damn proud of myself, because it was pretty difficult but I stuck with it until the end. And I had fun in the process! So, how much of a difference does this calendar really make? Does it work? Here are my final thoughts. This workout program really works, but you need to work at it too. If you're going to half ass the workouts, eat badly and skip days, you really won't see a huge difference. I really did my best to stick with it and work hard at it and I really have seen a difference. The thing about Blogilates that I enjoyed is that you won't just see a difference in your body, you'll see a difference in your mindset and motivation as well. Physically, since I began the calendar, I lost 10 pounds and I feel so much stronger than I was before. My muscles, especially my legs are so much more defined than they used to be. Cassey als
