Review: Wet N' Wild Photofocus Foundation

Hey everyone, long time no talk. I'm in the midst of my final exams so I've been pretty dead to the world, but I promise I've been trying out a TON of new products so stay tuned for reviews! 😀
So, I hadn't tried out a new foundation in ages until I picked this one up, and I knew from the first time I used it that I NEEDED to review it. It was so hyped up so I had pretty high hopes from the start.
I'll start off by saying that I was so impressed by the shade selection on this foundation. There are 20 different shades which is pretty great for a drugstore foundation. I'm so happy I was actually able to find a light enough shade for my skin which tends to be an issue with some foundations at the drugstore.

What I Noticed:

  • Medium coverage, but definitely buildable
  • It smells like paint... thankfully the smell fades away but yeah, paint smell
  • No pump but you get the product out with a paddle type thing that works pretty well
  • Fairly long lasting but at the end of the day I find it settles a bit strangely around my nose and between my eyebrows
  • You definitely need to set it with a powder or else it will remain tacky
  • Applies well with both a brush or a beauty blender
  • Not 100% transferproof but pretty close to it

Overall, this foundation did have its drawbacks but I really did like it. Besides the fact that it was crazy affordable ($6 US, I believe?), it was a really solid drugstore foundation. I think that I would recommend this more for dry to normal skin types, as I don't think it would hold up as well on oily skin.

Let me know what you think if you've tried this/want to try this!

My Spring Makeup Essentials: Pink

As soon as spring rolls around, my makeup looks tend to shift to the more pink side of things. I've really been loving the monochrome makeup trend these days because rosy eyeshadow and pink lips are right up my alley.

If you're like me and you love these kinds of looks, here are my favourite makeup products that you need in your life, like, yesterday.

Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette
I whip out this palette for almost every eyeshadow look I ever do. It is just a must have.

Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette
I waited on picking up this palette for a long time but I finally bit the bullet and went for it. Obviously I love it. If you're like me and you love pink-toned makeup looks, don't hesitate on picking up this palette.

Maybelline The Blushed Nudes Palette
If you're looking for a more affordable palette that still packs a punch, I highly recommend the Maybelline Blushed Nudes palette. The metallic shades in this are so freaking gorgeous, it blows my mind.

Too Faced Melted Lipstick in 'Melted Chihuahua'
This is more of a rosy nude on my lips, and it's just one of those lip colours that complements any eye look, so it's definitely a must have in my collection.

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in 'Baci' and 'Patina'
I've recently fallen in love with this liquid lipstick formula (why did I wait so long to try these!?). The colour selection is fantastic as well. Definitely pick one (or many!) of these up.

Physicians Formula Happy Booster Blush
This is my holy grail pink blush right now. If you want a blush that makes your cheeks look flushed and healthy, with a touch of glow, this is the one.

Nyx Prismatic Eyeshadow in 'Girl Talk'
I've actually be loving this lately for highlighting. It's a pretty pink toned champagne colour that really complements any pink makeup look you do. It also looks really nice if you're very fair skinned and have a hard time finding a highlight that isn't too dark.

When it comes to seasonal makeup, my two favourites would have to be Spring and Autumn, As much as I love my vampy berry lips when the cooler months roll around, I love all the pretty colours I get to play around with in the spring time.

Here are the lipsticks that are pretty much always in my rotation all Spring long:
From Left to Right:

  • Wet N' Wild Liquid Catsuit Matte Liquid Lipstick in 'Nudist Peach'

  • Essence Lipstick in 'Coral Calling'
  • Maybelline Colour Sensational Lipstick in 'Vibrant Mandarin'

Let me know if you'd like lip swatches or entire makeup looks created with any of these! I'm so excited that it's finally spring!

The Lip Pencil by BITE Beauty

Note: I received these items complimentary from Influenster and BITE Beauty for review purposes. As always, all opinions are 100% honest and my own!

Okay, real talk for a second. Lip pencils have never been my go-to makeup item. I've tried so hard to get into using lip pencils, but I really couldn't. Either they were too stiff and dragged on my lips, or I just found they didn't last and did nothing.

So I was definitely intrigued to try out BITE Beauty's Lip Pencils. Could this be the product I've been looking for? I've heard such amazing things about their Amuse Bouche lipsticks, so I had high hopes that I would find similar quality in these pencils.
From the first initial swatch of these, there's one thing I noticed that I've never experienced with any other lip pencils: these things are damn creamy. They apply so smoothly, it's essentially like they've repackaged a creamy lipstick into a pencil format. This does unfortunately mean that they will snap easily if you apply too much pressure when using them, but if you're gentle, they will give such a nice, smooth line.
I received the shade 044 and 020, with the Amuse Bouche lipsticks in Whiskey and Honeycomb to go with them. I was so instantly drawn to the 044/Whiskey combo because it is just the most pretty vampy lip ever. It's a reddish brown with hints of plum and I just cannot get enough of it.
I was a touch disappointed with 020/Honeycomb though. Formula wise it's fantastic; no issues there. The shade is just a bit too nude for my lips, and I look a little bit washed out (corpse like...). I still wanted to get good use out of this one though, so I applied a gloss on top if it with a pink undertone and it looks stunning.
The Bottom Line: are these worth it? Absolutely. They've made me a believer that lip pencils are actually worth using, and that says a lot. Would I repurchase/purchase more shades? Again, absolutely. I'd love to pick up a nude more flattering to my skin tone. This is definitely a product I could see myself using on a daily basis.

My Current Skincare Routine! (+ Reviews)

One of my New Years resolutions this year was to get more serious about my skincare routine. In the past I've always been the type of girl who only needed a cleanser and a moisturizer and I was good to go. Now that I've been paying more attention to what my skin needs and using products catered to those needs, my skin has never been better.

I have very dry skin, and struggled with dullness and sensitivity for a while as well. I thought I'd share my current skincare routine because these products have changed the game for my skin.

Cleansers:
When it comes to getting my skin clean, there are 2 products I'm loving. For removing my eye makeup, I use the L'Oreal Sublime Soft Gentle Micellar Solution. This is one of the few micellar waters I've tried that both removed all my makeup effortlessly (no harsh scrubbing required!) but also doesn't sting my eyes.

For washing my face, I've been loving the Olay Fresh Effects Out of this Swirled Deep Pore Cleanser. It has a mild exfoliant, but it's gentle enough to use on a daily basis. I love how it foams up and cleans so wonderfully, and it doesn't leave my skin feeling stripped and dry.

Serum:
When it comes to serum, I've been using this sample of the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II (is that a long name, or what?). A little goes a long way with this stuff, and I really do notice a difference when I use it. It leaves my normally dry skin feeling comfortable, visibly plump and luminous.

Moisturizer:
For lightweight moisture in the daytime, I like to use the L'Oreal Ideal Moisture Day Cream for sensitive skin. It's just heavy enough to keep my skin from being dry and flaky, but not so heavy that I worry my skin will be greasy.
At night, I love my Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion +. This is a serious moisturizer. If you have extremely dry skin and nothing seems to help, definitely give this one a shot. It's a life saver.

Eye Cream:
I'm not particularly loyal to any eye creams right now. Eye cream is usually the thing in my routine that I experiment with the most because there hasn't been any that I see much result with. The one I'm using right now is the L'Oreal Defense Eye Cream, which is pretty good. It leaves my under eyes very hydrated and my makeup applies a lot nicer when I use this. It doesn't do much for dark circles however.

I recently made a big skincare order on Sephora so I'm excited to try out some new things. (Sephora is having a 2X the points event on all skincare!).

Let me know what your favourite skincare products are! Anything I should try out?

PROJECT PAN! (Winter 2016/17)

If there's something I learned from my no-buy back in the Fall, it's that I really do have a LOT of makeup, a lot of it that has been sitting around, unused or half used and forgotten.
That's why I decided I'm going to start my own Project Pan, to use up some of the products that need some loving/need to go.
So from now until March 20th, 2017, I'm going to be working on finishing up these products!
The products:
Maybelline 'The Blushed Nudes' palette
Benefit 'The Porefessional' Primer
Marcelle Kohl Eyeliner
Maybelline 'Fit Me' Concealer
Covergirl 'Ready Set Gorgeous' Foundation
Nyx Prismatic Eyeshadow in 'Girl Talk'

All of these are products that I love, but have either been a bit neglected in my routine, or have just been lingering around for way too long. So I chose them to encourage myself to put them to more use.
As you can see, I've already made a significant dent in this palette. My goal is to hit pan on at least 2-3 more shades though.
Realistically, do I expect to finish all of them up?
Definitely not, especially with the palette.
My main goal is to see a noticeable difference in the amount of product and maybe have finished up at least half of the products on my list.

Let the fun begin!

Going on a Makeup No-Buy

I love buying and trying out new makeup. There's nothing quite as exciting as picking up a new product to test out and add to your collection. But I have reached a point right now where I need to go on a makeup no-buy, and while I'm not too excited about it, I think it's pretty necessary.

I have a lot of makeup. My collection is definitely nowhere nearly as large as many other people's, but it still is quite big. As much as I enjoy buying new things, I really have more than enough to use right now. So I made the decision that I will not be purchasing any new makeup for the foreseeable future.

Besides the fact that I have more makeup that I can use up, I am also back in school which means I'm not working nearly as much as I was in the summer, so spending money on makeup isn't the most financially responsible thing for me at the moment.

I'm trying to see it as more of a challenge, rather than a limitation, and I encourage a lot of you to try it out too. When was the last time you used up an entire makeup product? To make this no-buy a little more fun for me, I decided to add some goals for myself as well: I want to finish some products (besides the occasional mascara!), and I want to choose some of the products in my collection that are a bit neglected and put them to good use.

Of course, I do have a few exceptions to this no-buy, which are the following:

  • I'm allowed to buy makeup brushes, because while I have a lot of makeup, I actually do really lack in the brush department (however they have to be affordable).
  • I'm allowed to repurchase any holy grail type products should I run out of them and I don't have another product that I can use in it's place.
  • I can do a little Sephora shopping on my birthday which is next month!
  • Warehouse sales are fair game.
So that's my plan. I know it isn't quite a complete no-buy, since I do have some exceptions, but I've been sticking to these rules for the past 3 weeks and hopefully I can stick to it until about the holidays. I'm excited to start using up some of my products and maybe rediscover some of the things I haven't given as much love. Maybe my empties blog posts will be a bit more interesting in the upcoming months ;) !

Have you ever gone on a no-buy? How did it go?

Let me know!!

One Brand Favourites: Marcelle

About a year ago, I was on the hunt for a new Micellar water and picked up one from Marcelle on a whim. Since then, Marcelle has become one of my favourite brands for both skincare and makeup. The more I've been looking into this brand, the more I want to try from them. Their products are not tested on animals, are perfume free and hypoallergenic, which is a huge plus for someone like me, who has sensitive skin. They're also a Canadian brand, so they're fairly accessible at the drugstore here in Canada.

These are the products from Marcelle that I use the most (even though there are still a lot of things I haven't tried yet but I'm looking forward to!)

Rouge Xpression Lipstick

I own 2 of these lipsticks and I'm dying to buy some more. They're extremely pigmented and long lasting, but also feel so hydrating on the lips. I feel like the packaging on them isn't the best (it feels a bit cheap), but don't let that deter you! These are fantastic quality lipsticks and one of my favourites for sure.

Quad Powder Blush in "Ultimate Corals"

This is one of my holy grail blushes. In fact, for a while this was the only blush I wore on my cheeks. Everything about this is awesome. The pigmentation is on point, plus they're long lasting and super blendable. Also, this particular shade is so flattering on my skin tone, it gives such a natural looking flush to the skin.

Black Kohl Eyeliner

Here's the deal. The Lancome Kohl eyeliner is my absolute holy grail kohl eyeliner. But it is crazy expensive, and I cannot justify paying over $30 on something I'm gonna sharpen away. So, I've been trying out drugstore Kohl eyeliners like a madwoman, trying to find something that can hold a candle to my beloved Lancome one. And This. Is. It. It is so good. Super pigmented, long lasting and easy to apply. I'm obsessed.

3-in-1 Micellar Solution

The first Marcelle product I've ever purchased, and probably one of my favourites. It is 100% holy grail status to me. I believe I'm on my 3rd or 4th bottle of it now. It doesn't irritate my sensitive skin, but it still manages to remove every trace of makeup, even waterproof. You don't even have to sit there scrubbing for hours, a couple swipes and it's all gone! Biggest bonus: you could probably pour this stuff into your eyeballs and it wouldn't sting one bit! (Although, I don't recommend that)

BB Cleanser

Although I don't use this as much as the Micellar water, I find this product SO cool. Basically, it has the consistency of a face cream, and you massage it into your skin and then just wipe it off with a cloth. All the dirt and makeup on your face just wipes away! I think this is so cool, especially if you're travelling. Also, I love how my skin feels after using it. You'd expect your skin to still feel kinda dirty, since there's no soap or water involved, but my skin actually feels moisturized and refreshed! It's seriously awesome.

Note: Looking this up online, I think it may be discontinued, so if you're lucky enough to come across it, definitely pick one up!

Night Cream for All Skin Types

This is just a really good face cream. I like using this in the summer when I don't need a really heavy, thick night cream. It's light in consistency but still leaves my skin feeling fresh and hydrated when I wake up the next morning

Big Bronzer in 'Heat Wave'

This was such an impulse buy. Did I need a huge, shimmery bronzer? Not really. Did I give it and pick it up, because it was pretty? Damn right I did. And I'm so glad that I did because it is so pretty! I like applying this for nights out, when I want a pretty bronzy glow. Also, the lighter shades work wonderfully as a highlighter! Honestly, this bronzer has something for all skin tones and the quality is awesome. It's finely milled, so you're not applying chunky glitter to your face, but rather a nice, shimmery glow.

One Brand Favourites: Nyx

Hi guys!
So today, I thought I'd talk to you all a bit about my favourite products from Nyx.
Nyx only became available in Canadian stores this year and they have quickly become one of my favourite brands. While I still haven't tried all of their products (I have my eye on the Lip Lingerie liquid lipsticks that are only available online!), I have tried a good amount and I have many favourites that you all NEED to add to your collection!

1) Soft Matte Lip Creams
There is no surprise here. I am pretty obsessed with these. As far as drugstore matte liquid lipstick goes, these are the best. They also come in a great variety of colours, so whether you're looking for a vampy, dark mauve or a subtle nude, they have what you're looking for. The lasting power is great, and I don't find them to be overly drying. Overall, they're a must-have if you want to up your matte lip game without spending a ton!

2) Prismatic Eyeshadows
For me, these were love at first swatch. They are everything you want in an eyeshadow. They're buttery, smooth and insanely pigmented with little to no fallout. Bonus Tip: The shade "girl talk" also works as an amazing highlighter.

3) HD Concealer
This stuff works wonders, especially under the eyes. It's been described by many as a dupe for the Nars Creamy Concealer and with good reason; it gives great coverage, it's creamy and it isn't drying at all. I'm so glad I purchased this because it has been my go-to concealer ever since.

4) High Voltage Lipstick
I hardly ever hear people talk about these and I think that's such a shame. The pigmentation on these lipsticks are insane. They are so creamy and feel really hydrating on the lips, but also give such a great colour payoff. They also come in a huge variety of colours, you're definitely likely to find one that you like.

5) HD Blush in "Taupe"
When you first look at this product, you wonder why they would sell a blush in such a weird grey-brown colour. But this is the perfect contour shade: it's not too warm, it's not muddy or orange, it's perfect. I've seen this work fantastically on girls with darker complexion and it also looks great on me, and I am very fair skinned. It also has insane pigmentation so you need to have a light hand with this product. Highly recommended.

What are your favourite Nyx products? Let me know!

Little Beauty Haul!

Hello there! Sorry for the lack of posts lately, I've been super busy doing all sorts of cool stuff, so look forward to seeing tons of blog posts about what I've been up to coming soon! :)

I've picked up some cool things over my past few shopping trips and I thought I'd share them!

  • Bath & Bodyworks Warm Vanilla Sugar body lotion
  • MAC Amplified creme lipstick in Impassioned
Just about the most gorgeous bright fuchsia!

  • Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation
  • Lise Watier Eau Miscellaire
  • L'Oreal "The One Sweep" sculpting blush duo
  • Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen
  • Rimmel Moisture renew lipsticks in Coral Queen, Diva Red and Funtime Fuchsia
From left to right: Coral Queen, Funtime Fuchsia, Diva Red.
I'm really looking forward to getting familiar with these products. I've tried a few of them and I'm quite impressed with my purchases! I'm also very intrigued with the Lise Watier miscellar water which contains no parabens, soap, alcohol, fragrance, dyes or oil.

Let me know if you want me to review any of these!
