Going on a Makeup No-Buy

I love buying and trying out new makeup. There's nothing quite as exciting as picking up a new product to test out and add to your collection. But I have reached a point right now where I need to go on a makeup no-buy, and while I'm not too excited about it, I think it's pretty necessary.

I have a lot of makeup. My collection is definitely nowhere nearly as large as many other people's, but it still is quite big. As much as I enjoy buying new things, I really have more than enough to use right now. So I made the decision that I will not be purchasing any new makeup for the foreseeable future.

Besides the fact that I have more makeup that I can use up, I am also back in school which means I'm not working nearly as much as I was in the summer, so spending money on makeup isn't the most financially responsible thing for me at the moment.

I'm trying to see it as more of a challenge, rather than a limitation, and I encourage a lot of you to try it out too. When was the last time you used up an entire makeup product? To make this no-buy a little more fun for me, I decided to add some goals for myself as well: I want to finish some products (besides the occasional mascara!), and I want to choose some of the products in my collection that are a bit neglected and put them to good use.

Of course, I do have a few exceptions to this no-buy, which are the following:

  • I'm allowed to buy makeup brushes, because while I have a lot of makeup, I actually do really lack in the brush department (however they have to be affordable).
  • I'm allowed to repurchase any holy grail type products should I run out of them and I don't have another product that I can use in it's place.
  • I can do a little Sephora shopping on my birthday which is next month!
  • Warehouse sales are fair game.
So that's my plan. I know it isn't quite a complete no-buy, since I do have some exceptions, but I've been sticking to these rules for the past 3 weeks and hopefully I can stick to it until about the holidays. I'm excited to start using up some of my products and maybe rediscover some of the things I haven't given as much love. Maybe my empties blog posts will be a bit more interesting in the upcoming months ;) !

Have you ever gone on a no-buy? How did it go?

Let me know!!

Review: Lush Cynthia Sylvia Stout Shampoo

Hello there! So I've been on the hunt for a shampoo to tame my wild hair for ages, so I picked up this during my recent Lush visit  in hopes that it would help with my thick, coarse, dry hair. According to Lush , this has: Stout to calm:  For all hair types but especially beneficial for fluffy, hard-to-manage hair. Friend to all scalps:  Yeast improves the health of the hair and scalp. For a polished finish:  Organic lemon juice is a gentle cleanser that adds masses of shine and gloss. After using this for a little while now, I can say that I'm pretty much still on the fence about it.  Pros:  Though my hair is still a little frizzy, its definitely a bit better than it used to be. My hair is also softer to the touch and shinier.  Cons: I've noticed my hair gets greasier a lot quicker since using this shampoo. I also feel as though it may be drying out my scalp, but it'll take a little more time to know for sure if its because of th...
