Dry Skin Saviours: La Roche Posay

As you all know, I have very dry skin which means I'm always testing out new products that may make my skincare journey a little bit more comfortable. I decided since I'm always testing out new products that I'll be sharing the best of the best of them weekly with you all, so those of you struggling with dry skin like me know what really works.

If you have extremely dry skin like me, you know that the only thing that can soothe it is a thick, balm-like cream, which is what I found when I tried out the Lipikar Baume AP+ and the Nutritic Intense Riche creams from La Roche Posay.

Now, let's keep it short and sweet because I could rave about these products all day.

The Lipikar Baume AP+ is a must have when your skin is having bad flare ups of dryness and just generally freaking out. This cream is thick but comfortable; your skin doesn't feel like it's suffocating under it. It also soothes any itchiness which is so relieving.
The Nutritic Intense Riche tells you all you need to know just in the name. It's a very rich, intensely moisturizing cream that is basically a thick, balm-like consistency. I only like to use this one at night because it is very heavy feeling and you may look a bit shiny while it's on. You really know your skin is getting the nourishment it needs with this one.

I also needed to give a shoutout to my new holy grail, the Micellar Water for Sensitive Skin. When my skin is having a particular tough time or if I use a product that doesn't quite agree with my skin, I tend to get dryness, flaking and sensitivity on my eyelids, which obviously isn't a great mix with eyeshadow. This Micellar water is super gentle, while still r
emoving all my eye makeup, waterproof or not.

The Bottom Line:
If you struggle with dry skin, definitely pick up these products from La Roche Posay. You will not be disappointed. I know this brand also makes products targetted towards mature skin, acne prone skin, etc. so even if you're not dry, take a look through their selection. I'm really loving these products.

Review: Acure Aromatherapeutic Moroccan Argan Oil

My skin is going through a phase. It is drier than the desert in July and I've been trying my best to rehydrate it, which means I've tested out a TON of products in the past couple weeks, which of course I will review for you all. Today we're talking about the  Aromatherapeutic Moroccan Argan Oil from Acure, in the rose scent.

I am someone who swears by oils. Be it for my skin or my hair, I'm a huge believer in the benefits of using an oil to solve any of your dryness issues. This oil is a nice one. While it is argan oil, I find it has a subtle citrusy lemongrass scent (even though it says that it's rose scented!)

Alright so let's talk about what makes this oil great;

  • Lightweight and quickly absorbed
  • Multipurpose: works great in hair, on cuticles, and on any dry areas of the skin
  • Scent is subtle and fades away after a while
  • Suitable for sensitive skin
  • Organic, Vegan, Cruelty Free, Sulfate Free and Paraben Free
Honestly this is great stuff to have in your stash because of the versatility of it, I use it on my cuticles before doing my nails, I mix it into my moisturizer to add extra moisture and I use it in the tips of my hair as well for added softness. It's also great on dry elbows, knees and heels.

Highly recommend this (and I believe it's quite affordable too! around $13).

(Disclaimer: This product was sent to me for review purposes. As always, all opinions are 100% my own)

SEPHORA HAUL! (Mostly Skincare)

Have you ever gotten so frustrated with your current makeup or skincare situation that you frustratedly purchase a bunch of new products hoping to find something to make it all better? No? Just me?
I was having the absolute worst time trying to deal with my skin lately. It's just been so incredibly dry and flaky, nothing in my current routine could fix it. My skin looks and feels terrible and my makeup looks just as bad. So I decided to purchase some new skincare things to help fix this issue.
The first things I picked up were the Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask and the Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel. I bought them in the smaller travel sizes since I never know how my skin is going to react to them and I didn't want to make a big investment in a product that would cause me to break out. I also picked up the Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil because my skin is painfully dry and everyone and their grandma has raved about this stuff.
I also decided to pick up a few overnight masks that I'm hoping will boost my skins moisture while I sleep. The little Sephora collection ones are so cute and tempting that I couldn't resist picking up more than one.
I love shopping from Sephora online because I'm a sucker for free samples. I also picked up the Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Venom which was a 100 Point Perk. I was also super excited because when I made this order, Sephora was giving free sample bags of hydrating skincare for purchases over $25 (I know, how perfect right?)
I am so so excited to give these all a try. Most of these products are new to me so I'm very looking forward to trying these out. I have such a huge stash of sample sized products, it's getting a little out of hand, but I'm definitely going to put them to use (I swear!)
Let me know in the comments below if you'v tried any of the products I picked up!
Bonus question: do you have a big stash of samples?
Have a great week everyone!

The End of Dark Circles?: VIIcode Eye Mask for Dark Circles Review!

Note: This product was sent to me for review purposes. As always, all opinions are 100% my own. I always keep it real for you all! :)

Those of you who’ve been following my blog for a while now know that my biggest skincare struggle is my under eye area. Dark circles, fine lines, puffiness, you name it, I’ve got it going on over there. I’m basically always trying out new products for that area, so when I was asked to try out the VIIcode Eye Mask for Dark Circles, I was very intrigued. I had never actually tried out an eye mask before, so I had pretty high hopes that this would make a difference for me.
These are a gel formula mask that you apply to your under eyes for 8 hours two or three times a week.
After having tried out a box of there (there are 6 pairs per box), I’ve actually started to notice a difference with these. A full treatment takes 3 boxes, but after 1 box, I’ve noticed my under eye area is smoother and much more hydrated. My dark circles haven’t completely gone away (I still need my unde reye concealer!), but I do think the darkness has faded somewhat.

Putting these on is a really relaxing experience. The masks are so cooling and comfortable under the eyes. I also love the gel formula, which means that there is no dripping like you can have with sheet masks. I also highly recommend popping these in the fridge before putting them on, especially if you struggle with puffiness.
Since you have to apply them for 8 hours, which is different than with any other mask I’ve tried, I like to use these when I’m either spending a day in at home or while I’m sleeping.
So: are these worth it?
They were a little big for my face, but you can always trim them. I kept the full thing on because it felt sooooo nice and cooling.
I think these are absolutely worth it, if you’re someone like me who has many issues going on with your under eye area. I noticed that my under eye concealer now goes on so much smoother and looks so much better because my fine lines have been smoothed out and my under eyes have been hydrated.  These are definitely worth a shot if you have problematic under eyes.

My Current Skincare Routine! (+ Reviews)

One of my New Years resolutions this year was to get more serious about my skincare routine. In the past I've always been the type of girl who only needed a cleanser and a moisturizer and I was good to go. Now that I've been paying more attention to what my skin needs and using products catered to those needs, my skin has never been better.

I have very dry skin, and struggled with dullness and sensitivity for a while as well. I thought I'd share my current skincare routine because these products have changed the game for my skin.

Cleansers:
When it comes to getting my skin clean, there are 2 products I'm loving. For removing my eye makeup, I use the L'Oreal Sublime Soft Gentle Micellar Solution. This is one of the few micellar waters I've tried that both removed all my makeup effortlessly (no harsh scrubbing required!) but also doesn't sting my eyes.

For washing my face, I've been loving the Olay Fresh Effects Out of this Swirled Deep Pore Cleanser. It has a mild exfoliant, but it's gentle enough to use on a daily basis. I love how it foams up and cleans so wonderfully, and it doesn't leave my skin feeling stripped and dry.

Serum:
When it comes to serum, I've been using this sample of the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II (is that a long name, or what?). A little goes a long way with this stuff, and I really do notice a difference when I use it. It leaves my normally dry skin feeling comfortable, visibly plump and luminous.

Moisturizer:
For lightweight moisture in the daytime, I like to use the L'Oreal Ideal Moisture Day Cream for sensitive skin. It's just heavy enough to keep my skin from being dry and flaky, but not so heavy that I worry my skin will be greasy.
At night, I love my Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion +. This is a serious moisturizer. If you have extremely dry skin and nothing seems to help, definitely give this one a shot. It's a life saver.

Eye Cream:
I'm not particularly loyal to any eye creams right now. Eye cream is usually the thing in my routine that I experiment with the most because there hasn't been any that I see much result with. The one I'm using right now is the L'Oreal Defense Eye Cream, which is pretty good. It leaves my under eyes very hydrated and my makeup applies a lot nicer when I use this. It doesn't do much for dark circles however.

I recently made a big skincare order on Sephora so I'm excited to try out some new things. (Sephora is having a 2X the points event on all skincare!).

Let me know what your favourite skincare products are! Anything I should try out?

Arbonne RE9 Advanced Line Review

Disclaimer: I was sent these products for free, for review purposes. All opinions, as always, are 100% my own!
I was recently sent a sample of Arbonne's RE9 Advanced line for review, and since incorporating these in my skincare routine and thoroughly testing them out, I've been beyond excited to write this review.

For those of you who are not too familiar with Arbonne, they are a botanically based, vegan brand that offer products formulated without any harsh or harmful chemicals. This is what initially intrigued me, because I've been having some skin issues lately.

I have very dry, sensitive, eczema prone skin that often tends to have somewhat negative reactions to strongly scented or harsh products. So I had high hopes for these products and hoped they'd give my skin the nourishment it so craved.

This line is their anti-aging line, which admittedly is not really a concern of mine, since I'm only 21 years old. However my skin is not without it's issues, and these products claimed they would work well on dry skin, so I was eager to give them a try.

I had samples of the cleanser, toner, serum, eye cream, day cream with SPF, extra moisture day cream with SPF and the night cream. While the products I received to try out weren't the biggest, I still got a good 2 weeks use out of most of them (I ran out of the cleanser and night cream first though, because I was obsessed!)

In a nutshell, here is what I thought of each one:

Smoothing Facial Cleanser: I really enjoyed this. It did everything I could want from a cleanser. I really loved that it left my face so clean, without any trace of makeup, dirt, oil, etc. but didn't leave it dried out or tight feeling. Also, it smelled like Terry's Chocolate Orange (you know the scent I'm talking about!), which just adds to how much I loved using it.

Regenerating Toner: I've never been someone who religiously used toner, but after incorporating this into my routine, I will probably continue to use it. It left my skin feeling even cleaner and fresher than before which is a great feeling, especially if you were wearing a full face of makeup all day.

Intensive Renewal Serum: This. Stuff. Blew. My. Mind. If there's anything here that I will be repurchasing ASAP, it's this. I am convinced that this is what cured my chronically dry skin. After only a couple days of using this, my skin became smooth, soft and plump. If you choose to buy any one thing from Arbonne, this is the one!

Corrective Eye Cream: This is one of the products I still have left of, so I continue to use it twice a day. It is one of the most hydrating eye creams I have ever used in my life, which worked out great for me since I have a very dehydrated under eye area. I didn't notice it doing anything for my darkness or bags (although 2 weeks usually isn't long enough to see much result), but my under eye concealer definitely applies a lot more evenly and nicely since my under eyes are so much more hydrated now!

Restorative Day Cream with SPF 20: I was a bit hesitant to use these day creams because my skin generally does not react very well to creams with SPF (breakouts galore!). Thankfully I didn't have any issues with this one although I did find it to be a bit too heavy for my skin.

Extra Moisture Day Cream with SPF 20: Strangely enough, I found this one to be less heavy on my skin that the restorative one! Again, I also did not have any negative reaction to this one either, and I felt like my skin just drank it up.

Night Repair Cream: This product, along with the serum, is one of my absolute favourites from the line. I have an issue with night creams; either they just aren't thick and hydrating enough, or they're too intense and sit as an oily film on top of my skin. I was worried about this at first because it was very thick, but my skin absorbed it so quickly and it was left feeling so soft, hydrated and soothed. If your skin is dry to the point of irritation or discomfort, you need this in your life.
So: 2 weeks down the line, how is my skin?
There is such a noticeable difference in my skin already that I'm really astounded. It is so much softer and hydrated, without a trace of the flaky, dry, irritation I was so used to.
I also truly feel like my skin appears more radiant and less dull as it was a few weeks ago.

If you have problematic skin and nothing seems to be soothing it or making it better, I highly recommend you try these out.

HUGE Haul of Skincare Samples!

Those of you who know me know that I love a good free sample. I love buying sample sizes of products before committing to the real thing. So this is something I was VERY excited about.

Awhile back, Shopper's Drug Mart was having a Fall Beauty Bonus where with a $120 purchase of beauty products, you received a tote bag with a TON of sample sized products, primarily higher end skincare.

Personally, I like to save up my Optimum points for events like these.
I haven't gotten around to trying any of these products yet (because God knows, I have enough products to try that I'm covered for a lifetime), but I thought I'd post about what was included in the bag and see if there are any products in particular you'd like me to review first!

One Brand Favourites: Marcelle

About a year ago, I was on the hunt for a new Micellar water and picked up one from Marcelle on a whim. Since then, Marcelle has become one of my favourite brands for both skincare and makeup. The more I've been looking into this brand, the more I want to try from them. Their products are not tested on animals, are perfume free and hypoallergenic, which is a huge plus for someone like me, who has sensitive skin. They're also a Canadian brand, so they're fairly accessible at the drugstore here in Canada.

These are the products from Marcelle that I use the most (even though there are still a lot of things I haven't tried yet but I'm looking forward to!)

Rouge Xpression Lipstick

I own 2 of these lipsticks and I'm dying to buy some more. They're extremely pigmented and long lasting, but also feel so hydrating on the lips. I feel like the packaging on them isn't the best (it feels a bit cheap), but don't let that deter you! These are fantastic quality lipsticks and one of my favourites for sure.

Quad Powder Blush in "Ultimate Corals"

This is one of my holy grail blushes. In fact, for a while this was the only blush I wore on my cheeks. Everything about this is awesome. The pigmentation is on point, plus they're long lasting and super blendable. Also, this particular shade is so flattering on my skin tone, it gives such a natural looking flush to the skin.

Black Kohl Eyeliner

Here's the deal. The Lancome Kohl eyeliner is my absolute holy grail kohl eyeliner. But it is crazy expensive, and I cannot justify paying over $30 on something I'm gonna sharpen away. So, I've been trying out drugstore Kohl eyeliners like a madwoman, trying to find something that can hold a candle to my beloved Lancome one. And This. Is. It. It is so good. Super pigmented, long lasting and easy to apply. I'm obsessed.

3-in-1 Micellar Solution

The first Marcelle product I've ever purchased, and probably one of my favourites. It is 100% holy grail status to me. I believe I'm on my 3rd or 4th bottle of it now. It doesn't irritate my sensitive skin, but it still manages to remove every trace of makeup, even waterproof. You don't even have to sit there scrubbing for hours, a couple swipes and it's all gone! Biggest bonus: you could probably pour this stuff into your eyeballs and it wouldn't sting one bit! (Although, I don't recommend that)

BB Cleanser

Although I don't use this as much as the Micellar water, I find this product SO cool. Basically, it has the consistency of a face cream, and you massage it into your skin and then just wipe it off with a cloth. All the dirt and makeup on your face just wipes away! I think this is so cool, especially if you're travelling. Also, I love how my skin feels after using it. You'd expect your skin to still feel kinda dirty, since there's no soap or water involved, but my skin actually feels moisturized and refreshed! It's seriously awesome.

Note: Looking this up online, I think it may be discontinued, so if you're lucky enough to come across it, definitely pick one up!

Night Cream for All Skin Types

This is just a really good face cream. I like using this in the summer when I don't need a really heavy, thick night cream. It's light in consistency but still leaves my skin feeling fresh and hydrated when I wake up the next morning

Big Bronzer in 'Heat Wave'

This was such an impulse buy. Did I need a huge, shimmery bronzer? Not really. Did I give it and pick it up, because it was pretty? Damn right I did. And I'm so glad that I did because it is so pretty! I like applying this for nights out, when I want a pretty bronzy glow. Also, the lighter shades work wonderfully as a highlighter! Honestly, this bronzer has something for all skin tones and the quality is awesome. It's finely milled, so you're not applying chunky glitter to your face, but rather a nice, shimmery glow.
