Annabelle Quad in 'Grape Vine': Swatches & Review

Annabelle 'Grape Vine'
What's that? Another purple drugstore palette? Why yes, it is. I know the obsession is real and weird, but I am still on the hunt for the perfecr purple palette.
Just from appearance, can we talk about how pretty these shades are? The shade Violet is kind of a dream come true for me. It doesn't quite translate similarly from the pan to the lid, but it's still pretty to look at.
Lets talk abut the shadow. The main issue I have with this palette is that the pigmentation is just not where I need it to be. If you really want an opaque colour on the lid, you will need to spend some time working to build it up.

I really appreciate that there are some matte shades in the palette. You find plenty of purple at the drugstore but not so much matte purple, so props to Annabelle on that.

The shadows themselves lean on the more stiff and powdery feeling shadows, rather than the buttery, soft shadows that I tend to prefer. It doesn't look bad, but you will definitely need to spend a bit more time working with them if you want bold colour.
Annabelle 'Grape Vine' Swatches
The final verdict: This is a fairly average palette. It's unique to me because very few drugstore brands (if any at all?) offer matte purple eyeshadow like this, however the formulation is very typical of drugstore quality. Not the best, but not bad by any means.

June Favourites!

Another month has come to an end, which means it's time for my monthly favourites! I have  smaller bunch of products this month, but I love them all so much. Some of them are new to me and others are rediscovered old favourites.
First, I've really been loving my Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip in the shade 'Donut'. It's the most perfect bright pink colour that looks so pretty in the summertime. I've really been reaching for this one a lot, especially since I've been keeping my eye looks a bit more neutral.

I've also gotten a lot of use out of my Annabelle BB Compact Makeup, as I'm sure you can tell by the generous amount of pan I've hit on it. I use this powder to set my makeup. It adds an extra little bit of coverage, and darkens my foundation a little bit, which is good since the foundation I'm using right now is my winter shade, so a little too light.
Of course, I've been roped in by the hype surrounding the L'Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise mascara. I really do believe it deserves the hype it gets. It's for sure a dupe for my beloved Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara, and at a fraction of the price, I'm on board 100%.
I've really been enjoying the Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 hour foundation this month. It offers great medium buildable coverage, is super long lasting, and leaves a very flawless finish on the skin. I'm not too sure what "Comfort Serum" is, but considering my skin has been dry to the point of discomfort this month, I will agree that this foundation has been comfortable to wear.

Finally, I started using my Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette on a near daily basis again, and I've fallen in love with it all over.

I still firmly believe that this is a must have in any persons makeup collection, whether you're a beginner or a makeup junkie.

It's the perfect collection of wearable neutrals that never get boring.

That's all for my monthly favourites for June! This month just flew by, it's so crazy. Can't wait to see what July has in store... (Hopefully a bit more sun and heat... the weather in Canada hasn't been too "summery" yet, unfortunately!)

Have a wonderful July everybody!

May Empties!

Hey everyone!
Lets talk empties; the products I finished up in the month of May. I love these kinds of posts because 1) you know you're getting a good review of a product when the person has completely used it up and 2) there's just something so satisfying about a fully used up product, isn't there?

I didn't finish too many products this month, but I'm still pretty pleased about what I did use up.

-Benefit 'Porefessional' Primer (small/deluxe sample size)
This primer was just okay for me, and I likely won't repurchase it. I'm someone who enjoys more hydrating primers, so this sillicone feeling type of primer isn't always my cup of tea.

-Essence Lash Princess Mascara
Ugh, I love this stuff so much. How can a product so damn affordable be this good? I already repurchased this!

-Annabelle Skinny Brow Liner
This was a decent brow pencil. Definitely a really good affordable option if you don't want to spend a fortune on brow products (ABH Brow Wiz, why must you hurt my wallet so?)

-L'Oreal Youth Code Skin Recharger Day/Night Cream
I was surprised at how much I adored this face cream. It had a cream texture but absorbed like a gel. Really refreshing to use and hydrating without being greasy. A really solid drugstore choice.

-Olay Fresh Effects 'Out of this Swirled' Exfoliator
Still confused as to if this line is still around/for sale (??) but I loved this. It can be a bit drying, so pair with a good moisturizer, but it exfoliated well and leaves you skin feeling very refreshed and cool.

Saturday Swatches: Annabelle Smokey Nudes Palette

Hey everyone!
I have so many eyeshadows lying around and I love nothing more than getting to swatch and play around with them, so I've decided that every Saturday I'll be swatching some for you all.

This week I'm swatching the Annabelle Smokey Nudes Palette. It's a cute, small palette that also happens to be pretty affordable as well ($12). It's an older palette but it's still available online and I believe in stores too.
The shadows themselves are very smooth, a bit on the dry side but blend fairly well. They are, however, pretty lacking in pigmentation as you can see in the swatches but with some primer, they can layer on fairly nicely.
I think this is a pretty versatile drugstore palette, since it doubles as a neutral palette and a smokey palette; you really get the best of both worlds here.

I think this would be a great palette for someone looking for a good product for subtle daily eye looks and for a beginner looking to play around with a palette that gives you both nudes and smokey shades.

Some of the more metallic shades in the palette are actually very pretty and apply so smoothly onto the eye.

The Verdict:

I would recommend this palette for someone looking for a decent drugstore palette and who don't necessarily want the highest pigment around. You can absolutely make some very pretty looks with this palette.

Spring 2017 Project Pan!

Hey everyone! So I really enjoyed my Winter project pan and since I have SO many products in my collection that either need more love or need to be used up ASAP, I decided I'll be doing a project pan with a different selection of products every month.

Here's what I chose for Spring 2017!

Of course, I'm bringing back the Nyx Prismatic Eye shadow in 'Girl Talk', since that was the one product in my last project pan that was pretty neglected. Hopefully I can get some good use out of this one this time around!

The big one for this project pan is my Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette. This was my favourite palette EVER, but since I've purchased so many palettes in the past few months, I feel like this ones been pretty neglected, so my goal is to get some good use out of this and to (hopefully) on at least 3-4 shades.
This will probably be the easiest product in my project pan, since I've already hit major pan on this one. This is the Maybelline Fit Me powder, which I'd really like to completely use up since it's not my favourite face powder ever.
The last two items are my Nyx HD concealer and my Annabelle Big Show Mascara. I like both of these a lot, but don't use them as much as I should. I tend to reach for my Maybelline Fit Me concealer more than this Nyx one, so I'm going to work on using this one up for the next few months.
The Annabelle Big Show mascara is a really nice mascara that I actually have multiple back ups of, but I'd really like to finish it up (for the sake of decluttering a bit!).

What are you working on finishing up? Let me know!

Friday, December 2, 2016

Can you believe it's already December? It's beginning to look a lot like..... exam season! Kidding, but not really. Hang in there students, the break is near! I can't wait to finally have more time to blog... November was a pretty brutal month for me in terms of school and time management!

This month was a really great one for me in terms of my makeup and skincare routine though. I just came out of a 4-ish month no-buy, which really renewed my perspective on using up my products and not buying more than I really need just because.

I also tried out so many new products, many of which I won't mention here (dedicated full reviews are on the way!), and I've discovered a ton of new favourites.
I went to the Lise Watier warehouse sale this past month and picked up their Blush Trio, and can we just talk about how pretty it is? I think its from an older collection, so I'm not sure if it's available any more, but I've been using it every day in November so I couldn't not share it. It gives the most perfect, winter rosy cheeks that I love.

Another thing I was on the hunt for this month was a new face powder, since I ran out of my beloved Rimmel 'Stay Matte'. I picked up Maybelline's Fit Me! Matte & Poreless Face Powder, and I've been loving it. I'm not sure if it's as good as the Rimmel one, but I've been using it every day and have no complaints at all. It mattifies and sets your face makeup without leaving your face looking powdery, and that's all I can ask for!
My favourite lip colour in November was hands down 'Pink Wink' from Maybelline. It's the coolest metallic rose colour in the most comfortable, long lasting formulation. I've never been a huge fan of the scent of Maybelline lipsticks, but this one doesn't bother me too much (maybe it's just because I love the shade so much, though!)

I've never been one to use setting sprays until I tried the Nyx Dewy Finish Long Lasting Setting Spray. This stuff has changed the game for me completely. It takes away any dryness or powdery finish and leaves your makeup looking like it just became one with your face. It's incredible.
I'm probably one of the biggest fans of L'Oreal's Infallible eye shadows, and this one in the shade 'Permanent Kaki' is definitely no exception. I've been stepping out of my comfort zone a lot lately in terms of eyeshadow and lipstick. A few months ago, I would have never thought I'd be wearing a shade like this on my eyes, but it's quickly become one of my favourites. It's a stunning metallic khaki colour that I honestly think would be flattering on just about any skin tone and any eye colour.

In a similar colour scheme, I've also been loving the Annabelle Smudgeliner in 'Cyber Jungle'. I've always been a huge fan of Annabelle's smudgeliners. They glide on extremely smoothly and pigmented. This one in particular is a khaki/taupe type colour that is suprisingly very pretty.

What did you love during the month of November?

September Favourites!

Yay! It's officially October, which means Fall is in full swing! Also, October happens to be my favourite month (and also my birth month, but that has totally nothing to do with it eheh).

September was a pretty good month for me. School is stressful, but rewarding. I'm also 2 months into my makeup-no buy, which was been a challenge. I'm so tempted to buy things, but it's also pretty satisfying to see my collection get more use.

Since I haven't been buying anything new, my favourites this month are mostly things in my collection I rediscovered my love for (or finally got around to trying). I've also been trying to push myself out of my comfort zone in terms of my makeup looks, which is especially fun now that its fall.

I've been absolutely loving the Annabelle 'Big Show' mascara this past month. It is such a great mascara to use on a day to day basis. It adds a natural looking length and volume to my lashes, which make them look extra fluttery and pretty. It also doesn't clump or flake, so it's pretty much fantastic all around.
My next favourite this month is actually not beauty related. I've been loving wearing delicate necklaces this past month, especially this one I got from Charming Charlie, which is a pretty pink, opalescent stone. I just love the pretty effect it gives! I wore it almost every day in September.

Scent wise, I've almost exclusively been wearing 'Coconut Passion' from Victoria's Secret. It is such a comforting yet flirty, sweet scent. If you're not crazy about sweet scents, I'd skip this, but if you're like me and you're a sucker for sweet, vanilla-y scents, you'll adore this.
I've also been getting a lot of use from my BH cosmetics 'Smokey Eyes' palette these past few weeks. This palette is seriously so fantastic for fall. It has some of the prettiest burgundies and purples. I really wish it had some more gold and orange shades, but it still is a great palette to work with. The shadows are also extremely pigmented and easy to blend out!
This eyeshadow might just be my favourite in the whole world... Photographs really cannot do it justice. Urban Decay's 'Lounge' shadow is addictive. It's a really cool brick red shade with a green shift.
One of my go-to bold lipsticks in September was pearl finish of 'Wine with Everything' by Revlon. On me, its a really pretty looking metallic orange-red, which I think is absolutely perfect for the fall season.
Of course, I wasn't wearing bold lipstick every day in September. I definitely was wearing more nude lipstick, and more often than not I was wearing 'Cool Nude' from Essence. As the name implies, it's a cool nude lipstick, which is a lot more flattering on the lips than I expected. It looks especially nice when you pair it with a more bold eyeshadow look.
Finally, I've been really liking to use e.l.f's Ultimate Blending Brush to apply blush. The brush is fairly dense and super soft, and just the perfect size to apply blush.

That's what I was loving this month! Let me know your favourites in the comments below!

August Favourites!

I know I say this every month, but how fast did August go by? It was a really great month for me but I'm already super excited for fall now. I didn't try out too many new products during the month of August but I really did fall in love with a small handful.

I think this was the month where I went out of my comfort zone a lot more in terms of eyeshadow and lip colours. I also went on a road trip that resulted in a fair bit of shopping. Anyway, looking through the products I used the most this month, these are the ones that stood out to me the most:

Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette
I actually only purchased this palette this month and I'm so glad I decided to go for it. It is a very neutral palette, which is right up my alley of course. I already knew that I loved the formulation of Too Faced eye shadows so I knew I wouldn't be disappointed. I only wish I picked this up sooner.

Nyx Lip Lingerie in 'Exotic'
I wanted to pick up some of Nyx's Lip Lingerie for so long now, and I finally got the chance to do so this month. I've heard a lot of mixed reviews on these, but I found the formulation to be really nice. It applies very smoothly and evenly, and lasts pretty well. The only thing I did find is that it didn't fade very nicely, but if you touch up a few times a day, you won't have any issues.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in 'Coral Berry'
It's no secret that I am in love with Revlon's Super Lustrous lipsticks. They are my favourite lipsticks at the drugstore. This colour is such a wearable coral that goes with so many different makeup looks. Hydrating, pigmented and easy to apply.
Lancome Effacernes Waterproof Under Eye Concealer
I wouldn't be surprised if I've mentioned this in past monthly favourites, but I still cannot get over how great this concealer is. Especially now that I'm back in school, and my under eyes are looking darker and more fatigued, this concealer has got my back. I pair it with a peachy colour corrector and my under eye darkness is virtually undetectable.

Covergirl Professional Loose Powder
I have memories of my mom using this powder when I was a little girl, and when I needed a new loose powder to set my under eye concealer, I picked this one up. It's a really good, dependable loose powder. I find that it sets my under eye area amazingly and leaves it smooth and creaseless all day, without looking too cakey or powdery.
Annabelle Smudge Liner in 'Atomic Surf '
Whenever I went for a more dramatic eye look, I loved applying turquoise liner on my bottom lash line. This liner in particular is so creamy and smooth, while also being insanely long wearing and pigmented. Annabelle never ceases to impress me with their eyeliners.

What did you love this month? Let me know! xo

June Favourites!

Is it just me, or did this month go by unbelievably fast? I cannot believe June is already over! This month was great for me in terms of beauty and makeup. I've tried a lot of new products, found tons of new favourites, and I've started testing out lots of new products to review soon! However, there can only be so many products in my monthly favourites, so here are the ones that were the best of the best for me this month! Interestingly enough, all my favourites this month are from the drugstore, so not only are they great products, but they're also affordable!

L'Oreal Lumi Liquid Glow Illuminator in 'Ice'

I was on the hunt for a good drugstore highlighter and let me tell you right now: the selection isn't huge. I was pretty drawn to the L'Oreal Lumi line and I picked up one of their Liquid Glow Illuminators in the shade 'Ice'. I'm planning on doing a full review on this product very soon, so I won't say much now but I will say that this is a really great liquid highlight. I was a little unsure as to how it would look on me, but it looked pretty great in the end!

Physician's Formula Touch of Glow Foundation

I have a full review on this foundation that I will be posting tomorrow, but to keep it brief; this is a great foundation for the summer. It is glowy and your skin looks very radiant using it. As per most of Physician's Formula complexion products, the shade selection is unfortunately (very) limited, but if you are not extremely fair/extremely dark, you can make this work for you.

L'Oreal Colour Riche Eyeshadow Quad in 'Stacked Heels'

This month, I was on the hunt for the perfect lilac coloured eyeshadow (but I was also on a budget, so I hit the drugstore). I picked up one of L'Oreal's eyeshadow quads in 'Stacked Heels' because it looked the closest to the colour I was going for. This is a really nice quad. Since it is drugstore, it isn't the most pigmented of eyeshadows, but if you pair it with an eyeshadow primer, it looks great.

NYC High Definition liquid eyeliner pen

I must admit, I really suck at liquid eyeliner. I know they say practice makes perfect, but I've gotten so comfortable with my pencil eyeliner routine, I've never really gotten around to getting in that practice anyway. However after hearing a few people talk about this product, I figured I'd give it a try. I mean, its $3, what have I got to lose? This product is SO easy to use and it looks really really nice. So if you are like me, and are less than talented with traditional liquid eyeliner, give this a try.

Annabelle Skinny Brow Liner

I believe that Annabelle is a brand that we only have here in Canada, but they really are great. Their products are affordable and and really really good. Everyday this month, I've been using their Skinny Brow Liner to fill in and shape my brows. It is extremely easy to use and has just the right amount of pigment. I also really appreciate that it's very easy to fix any mistake you might make while applying it, but once it sets, it wont budge.

Nyx Prismatic Shadow in Liquid Gold

Nyx's Prismatic eyeshadows are simply amazing. They are so pigmented, I can't get over it. The one in particular that I was loving is called 'Liquid Gold' and it honest to God looks like, you guessed it, liquid gold. So if you love gold eyeshadow as much as I do, you need this in your life.

Essence 'I Love Stage' Eyeshadow Base

What's better than a good eyeshadow base? A good eyeshadow base that costs less than $5. You heard me. This eyeshadow base is seriously holy grail to me at this point. It has a concealer-like colour to it, so it will cover up any broken vessels or areas you may want to conceal on your eyelids. It also keeps your eyeshadow from creasing, falling out AND it increases the pigmentation. And all this for $3.49. I mean, what else could you even ask for?

L'Oreal 'Eye Defense' Eye Cream

My dark under eye area is the bane of my existence. However, instead of just complaining about it and trying to conceal it, I've decided to add a good eye cream to my skincare routine to keep the area hydrated and hopefully diminish some darkness. I haven't noticed much yet in terms of making the area less dark, but I do notice that my under eye area is much more hydrated and my under eye concealer looks so much better now.

TV Favourite: Pretty Little Liars

PLL is back! Season 7 has just begun and as usual, I'm hooked. I've been following this show for years and years now, and this is it; it's the final season. I'm hoping for it all to be tied together nicely. 2 episodes into it, and I am already addicted. Can't wait to see how it ends!

YouTube Favourite: ReadySetGlamour

This month, I've been getting back into watching YouTube videos and Michelle honestly makes some of the best beauty videos out there. Her reviews are so honest and her videos are really entertaining and informative. She's also so involved with her viewers on Snapchat and Twitter! Definitely check her out!

Let me know what you were loving in the month of June!

Drugstore Haul!!!

Hey everyone! I did a bit of makeup shopping at the drugstore today and I thought it'd be fun to share my purchases with you all!

Firstly, there some truly amazing sales going on so I definitely encourage you to go check out your nearest drugstores and hopefully find some great deals like I did! Secondly, this may not be the most interesting haul in the world (1. I'm on a budget and 2. I mainly focused on eye and lip products) but I'm so excited with my new purchases!!!

What I got:
-Maybelline Pumped Up! Colossal Mascara
-Maybelline the Falsies Flared Mascara
-Marcelle Kohl Eyeliner in Black
-Annabelle Smudge Liner eyeliner in Wahine Blue
-Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipsick in Sugar Plum
-Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Wine With Everything (Pearl Finish)
-Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Violet Frenzy (Pearl Finish)
-Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Plum Velour (Shine finish)
-Nyx High Voltage Lipstick in Wine & Dine
-Nyx High Voltage Lipstick in Tiara

I'm so excited to give these a try. I purposefully chose a few lipsticks with a pearl finish because I have a feeling those are really going to be big this year. I love the pearl/metallic range Lime Crime has put out this season but I'm not a huge fan of the brand itself so I'm looking for similar products elsewhere! Hopefully these come out nice!

I will try all these out and report back if any of them are great! (or really really bad).
Hoping you're all having a great 2016!
