Taking a Mental Health Day

We've come a long way in terms of decreasing the stigma that surrounds mental health and illness, but we're far from it being gone completely. Our society places such a high importance on the biomedical model of health that to many still, physical illness seems more legitimate than mental illness. And while both can be equally distressing, there tends to be more sympathy given to those with physical illnesses, while mental illness is seen as a sign of weakness, as though it is something we should be able to overcome easily. You may not agree with what I'm saying. You may think we've come a long way in empathizing with those with mental illness and we're much more understanding now. But ask yourself: would you ever call in to work and say that you won't be coming in because you're feeling very anxious? Because you're feeling so incredibly sad, you don't even want to get out of bed? Because something inside you feels incredibly wrong, even though

Review: Psychobabble with Tyler Oakley and Korey Kuhl

Long time no post! How've you all been this week? Here's hoping your week was a bit calmer than mine was... I finally found a quiet moment in my day where I could post something, and I couldn't think of anything better than to write a little review of something I've been soooo into lately. So a little backstory for you all. My phone recently died (RIP) and until I can save up enough to get myself a nice new phone, I'm using a family members old iPhone. Now since it was all very last minute, I still haven't gotten around to putting any music on it, and I NEED something to get me through long bus rides. So I decided to take up listening to podcasts, in particular, Psychobabble with Tyler Oakley and Korey Kuhl and ohhh man, am I ever glad I started listening to it. This podcast is honestly hilarious. If you're a fan of Tyler's at all, I highly highly recommend it. Just a heads up though, because I have learned this the hard way, you will very likely

Weekly Pinterest Picks: Oversized Sweaters

The chilly weather is starting to show itself (finally!) and it'll soon be full blown weather for my personal favourite fall (and winter) fashion item - oversized sweaters. Anyone who knows me knows I have something of an addiction. I have so many oversized knit sweaters. I honestly cannot get enough and understandably so; they're comfy, they're warm, they look great with leggings or jeans; they work with flats, ankle boots or knee high boots; they look cute and fashionable all while feeling like you're wearing a blanket. So whats not to love? I gathered a few of my favourite oversized sweater looks I came across on Pinterest this week to share with you all. What do you think? Whats your favourite thing to wear during the fall season? Let me know! xo

6 Signs of A Strong Relationship

1. Mutual Trust This one is huge. You both trust each other no matter what. Now this doesn't mean you go in blindly trusting their every word and believe they can do no wrong. It means you've earned each others trust and respect each other enough not to mess with that. 2. You communicate This one is also very important. Nowadays we talk a lot, but communicating is different. You don't need to be constantly talking 24/7. But when it comes to important things, it's discussed. When one of you is upset, unsure, anxious, worried, etc. about something, especially if its something about your relationship, you let them know. You discuss it with maturity. This is always something you can work on because a relationship with good communication is a happier relationship. No one is a mind reader. 3. You support each other You support each others dreams and hobbies. You help them out when you're needed and cheer from the sidelines when you're not. You listen to them

6 Things to Know When Dating Someone Who Suffers From Anxiety

As someone who suffers from anxiety and is currently in a long term relationship, I can tell you that it can be difficult at times. We have good days and bad days, our bad days just tend to be a bit worse than others'. I'm incredibly fortunate to have someone who is so supportive and makes me feel safe and loved in times when I feel anything but that. I also know what it's like to be on the other end of this dynamic; how to be there and support someone who is feeling anxious and vulnerable. So if you're dating someone who is dealing with anxiety, here are a few tips that I've found really important to remember and will ultimately bring your relationship closer. 1) Reassurance I often worry that my anxiety will become a hindrance to my relationship, and may become a source of resentment. But a little reassurance can go a long way. "I'm here for you", "I love you no matter what", "I care about you and want to help you feel better.

Monday Motivation: Being a Happier You

Hard to believe in just a few months it'll be 2016. I still remember coming up with my New Year's resolutions for 2015 and wondering if I actually came close to actually reaching any of them. Does anyone ever stick to their New Year's resolutions all year long? Basically, my main New Year's resolution for 2015 was to be happier. And as far as resolutions and goals go, I think this is one that everyone should have for themselves. It's so easy these days to get caught up in constantly working hard, be it at school or at work, and not taking the time to check in with yourself and see how you're really doing. Are you really happy? Are you where you want to be? Do you enjoy your life as it is right now? Is there something you should be changing? And if it's something you can't change, maybe it's something you can learn to accept and maybe even love. It's something I've been thinking about a lot more often lately. Without trying to sound too

The Liebster Award

I've been tagged in the Liebster Award by the lovely Evija  (go check out her blog! She hasn't been blogging for long but I can tell she's someone to keep your eye on!) Thank you so much for the tag <3  For those of you who might not know, The Liebster Award is basically a Q&A tag with the purpose of getting deserving blogs a bit more publicity! After you've answered the questions, you can tag up to 11 more bloggers.  1. What made you want to start blogging? Good question! For quite a few years now I've been obsessed with reading blogs and watching YouTube videos all falling in that beauty-fashion-lifestyle kind of category and I think I was just really intrigued with the idea of having a little corner of the internet all to myself to share things I loved.  2. What's your favourite high street retailer?   Oooh that's a tough question! I think I would have to go with Forever 21 though, because I feel like it's a place you can go to one day

Weekly Pinterest Picks: Wanderlust

One of the things I love looking at on Pinterest is the beautiful places on this earth that I would love to travel to some day. I think travelling and experiencing things in different countries makes up about 80% of my bucket list and I can't wait to get started. It's a pretty gloomy day here where I am, so I figured I would share some of the awe inspiring photographs I've come across on Pinterest to inspire some wanderlust in you all as well. Where do you want to travel to? Let me know in the comments! xx Have a lovely weekend You can follow me on Pinterest here

Is a Shellac Manicure worth it?

Before going on vacation this summer I decided that instead of painting my nails at home, I'd treat myself to a Shellac manicure at a salon. I've never had a Shellac manicure done before, so I guess you could say that I'm behind in the times, but I finally got around to it and I honestly fell in love. So is it worth it? If you ask me, I'd say yes. It's not without downsides, but I think that the pro's grossly outweigh the con's. My nails tend to break very easily, even when I coat them with hardener, so I usually keep them somewhat short. With the shellac, my nails were so strong, and as promised, 2 weeks later and not a single chip or scratch in the polish. My nails grew out beautifully and I was so so sad to have to remove it. I would have definitely gotten more reapplied, however I can't have anything on my nails during the semester (the joys of clinicals!) Basically, it makes your nails stonger, grow out nicer, the colour looks stunning (an

Autumn

Autumn is by far my favourite season. I don't quite know what it is, but something about it just makes me feel warm and happy inside, even though it's only getting chillier outside. Honestly, I could never pinpoint just one thing about the season that makes it the one I prefer of them all. Everything just seems more crisp and bright and cozy. It almost makes me feel nostalgic, although I'm not quite sure for what. All I know is that there are so many things about autumn that make it pretty much better than the others; Big cozy sweaters Warming your hands with a hot drink Watching a movie under a big fluffy blanket Apple picking Pumpkin pie Pumpkin spiced lattes Pumpkin everything   Cozy socks Colourful trees The smell of freshly baked anything  The sound of the crunching leaves as you stomp on a big pile Warm cuddles Halloween Horror movie marathons Fall boots with wool socks underneath Holding hands to keep them warm Seeing your

Healthy (and Delicious!) Pasta Salad Recipe

This light, colourful pasta salad is my go-to recipe for picnics, pot-lucks and summer BBQ's. Its super tasty and healthy too! Ingredients: 1 box of pasta (I used tri-color fussili) 1 cup of white cheddar, cut into small cubes 1 red bell pepper, diced 1 yellow or orange bell pepper, diced 2-3 scallions 1 can of kidney beans, strained 1 tomato, diced Fresh basil Salad dressing of your choice (I used sundried tomato Italian, which was delicious!) Directions: Boil the pasta, strain and rinse with cold water. Transfer to a big bowl. Add the cheddar, bell peppers, scallions and tomato. Strain the can of kidney beans, rinse them in water and add them in the bowl. Garnish with fresh basil - this parts up to you; I put a lot of basil cause I love it, but you can put as much or as little as you'd like, or omit it all together. Finally, pour the salad dressing on top. I normally put about half a bottle (or about 1 cup) of store bought salad dressing on top, which sounds

Weekly Pinterest Picks: Ankle Boots for Fall

Another fall trend I've been adoring this year is ankle boots. It's not quite cold enough here for them yet, and to be honest I'm still holding on to my flats until the temperature drops a bit more, but when it inevitably does, I'll be throwing on a pair of these. They're so effortlessly fashionable and look great with denim, leggings and dresses making them an incredibly versatile addition to your wardrobe. Here are a few that I've found on Pinterest and have completely fallen in love with! Which ones are your favourite? xo You can follow me on Pinterest here

Anxiety and Relationships

Anxiety has affected my life in so many ways. I'm still learning to live with it, but it's not always easy. Especially when you're in a relationship. As much as I wish it didn't, and it could always be sunshine and happiness all day long, my anxiety has definitely affected my relationship with my boyfriend. I'm incredibly lucky that he is so patient and supportive, but I also worry that one day he'll get tired of putting up with me; is it possible to have anxiety about your anxiety? I guess it is. I think that's the thing a lot of people don't realize about anxiety disorders. It's not cute; it's not feeling shy and nervous once in a while, its not blushing and giggling and looking at your feet when someone talks to you. Its crippling fear, or just a constant nag in your head just constantly putting you on edge, upsetting you, scaring you. And it affects every aspect of your life, even those that make you happy. As horrible as I probably ju

August Favourites

Another month has ended, and with it brings tons of more amazing products that I've loved all month long! Here's what I loved the most: Too Faced Born This Way foundation I'll probably write a full, in-depth review of this product but OMG. This foundation has taken the #1 spot in my list of favourite foundations. Its honestly so incredible and I've been using it every day. I'd recommend it to anyone. I can't get enough of it. It looks so natural, feels so lightweight and nice on the skin, yet offers great coverage. Lush R&B Hair moisturizer It's been super hot and humid in August where I live, and that usually causes my hair to be out of control and frizzy but this product has honestly saved me. Besides the fact that it smells soooo nice, it makes my hair manageable and soft. I usually put it in my hair when its still wet, but you can also put it in while your hair is dry to tame frizz and flyaways. It's a must have product if you ever hav
