Turning 20

Hey there! It's been a while since I've written. I've been unbelievably busy the past couple of weeks and though things are far from settling down, I figured I'd put some time aside to update you all a little. It was my birthday yesterday... 20 years old. Time goes by so quickly, it's crazy. I find it funny how as we get older, things seem to lose their special "magic" they used to have when we were young. Birthdays, Christmas, holidays that used to be the most exciting thing somehow just aren't anymore. It doesn't mean they aren't positive, fun experiences anymore; it's just that the childhood wonder and excitement has just worn away. I guess that's growing up. Wow, I didn't mean to get depressing there... I had a lovely birthday. I got to spend the day with my best friend who I don't get to see as often as I'd like, and then have dinner with her, my family and my boyfriend. It was a really great night. And besides that

Self Reflection: Betrayal, Hurt and Letting Go

This will be kind of a different kind of post. When I imagined creating a blog, I imagined it as a space where I could share whatever I was interested or felt like talking about. A mix between a scrapbook and a diary of sorts. And while thus far the majority of my posts have been more broad and general; recipes, fashion and advice, this one is going to be a bit more personal. If that's not something you're into reading, feel free to skip over this and come back soon (I'll be posting some recipes and more weekly Pinterest picks soon!). A teacher of mine mentioned something last week that stuck to me for the past few days and I really wanted to write about it, to maybe just gather my thoughts. She mentioned how a nurse working on the floor I'm currently doing my clinical in had said that she prefers working with men. Why? Because if you get in an argument with a man, you'll argue and then everything will go back to normal. There's that tense moment where you h

A Month In Review: September Highlights

Happy October lovelies! My favourite month of the year has rolled in and I am in total autumnal bliss as the colder temperatures and coloured leaves are moving in. How September passed by so quickly, I truly have no idea. I usually whip together a monthly favourites post at the end of each month, but I honestly have not tried enough products to write a decently long blog post, so I figured I'd try something different. Just a quick look-back at the highlights of my month; I baked my first rainbow cake! I baked a rainbow cake for my sisters birthday this year and it was such a fun experience! The best part is the anticipation of seeing what it'll look like once its cut! I took the first step to getting help with my anxiety This month I finally spoke to my doctor about what I can do to get help for my anxiety and panic attacks. I've been considering talking to someone about it for so long now and it was honestly relieving to finally do it. I made an appointment to see

Taking a Mental Health Day

We've come a long way in terms of decreasing the stigma that surrounds mental health and illness, but we're far from it being gone completely. Our society places such a high importance on the biomedical model of health that to many still, physical illness seems more legitimate than mental illness. And while both can be equally distressing, there tends to be more sympathy given to those with physical illnesses, while mental illness is seen as a sign of weakness, as though it is something we should be able to overcome easily. You may not agree with what I'm saying. You may think we've come a long way in empathizing with those with mental illness and we're much more understanding now. But ask yourself: would you ever call in to work and say that you won't be coming in because you're feeling very anxious? Because you're feeling so incredibly sad, you don't even want to get out of bed? Because something inside you feels incredibly wrong, even though
